The female mask, Tsangui, southern part of Gabon, was danced on stilts and embodys a female ancestor. The mask acted as a guardian of social order, for example after a case of death. Read pigments form a cross on the front, rarely used as motif. H. 26 cm. Provenance: private collection, Switzerland.
